CASIO TRYX CAMCORDER WITH 360-DEGREE SWIVEL FRAME

With a 12.1MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor, the Tryx should shoot very good 1080p video, and with a 21mm lens, it’s got a wide angle of view that doesn’t scream prosumer camcorder. Rounding out the features are touch focus and shutter, slow-mo video, HDR and 360 degree panoramas. .

MOTOROLA XOOM 10.1 INCH TABLET RUNNING ANDROID 3.0

Honeycomb tablets are dropping from the skies like honey from heaven, what with CES 2011 and all wrapping up over the weekend. Actually, like honey from a broken bees nest being ravaged by a berserker bear.

Sony’s NGP Handheld Heavy On The Tech

You know that crazy next-gen PSP (NGP) with multiple touchpads, dual analog sticks, and quadrupled resolution that Sony just trotted out? Yeah, it's got a quad-core Cortex-A9 and a quad-core Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX543MP4+ GPU doing the grunt work within. We've never seen a handheld this powerful. Then again, considering the darn thing won't be launching until this holiday season, maybe quad-core parts will be the least Sony will need in order to match up to the "super phones" coming up this year. We're just wondering how long any of these souped-up portables will last on a charge. Full spec sheet after the break.

Hacked Kinect does World of Warcraft

Motion sensing systems in gaming is definitely a trend that will keep gaining its expansion in the recent years. There is a catch however. A lot of popular games nowadays are not prepared for this kind of input. Or at least out of the box they aren’t. Guys from USC Institute for Creative Technologies, have developed a Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit tastefully christened FAAST that, as shown in the video after the jump, hacks World of Warcraft into a dialog state with Microsoft Kinect. FAAST is will not only work with WoW, probably with some other MMORPGs as well but what are those games is yet unknown. So are developer’s plans on the toolkit apart from that by bringing motion control experience to already popular games they are looking forward to help people recover from physical disabilities or simply shape up. The bottom line so far is that you can play World of Warcraft on Kinect.

Lenovo Ideapad U1 Tablet Runs Android And Windows 7, Includes A Dock With Keyboard

The problem with any good tablet, or any touchscreen for that matter, is the lack of a physical keyboard and docking station.  Plus you need a reasonably light operating system that doesn’t drain battery life and won’t drive you nuts when it comes to completing a task.
The Ideapad U1 from Lenovo is a tablet meets desktop computer thanks to its dual OS and optional docking station.  When docked the Ideapad U1 can provide a full blown Windows 7 experience.  When undocked (tablet form) it utilizes the Android OS, 2.2 to be exact.
Lenovo is promising an 8 hour battery life between charges thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 1.3Ghz processor and 10.1-inch HD multitouch screen.  There are also dual cameras (a 2MP front facing and 5mp backwards facing), weighs less than 2lbs and measures .51-inches thin.
There’s no word on a price, though it looks like this product will be specifically offered in China with a comparable version set for a US release due in the future.  Two price options will be available, with the more expensive one including the dock and keyboard.

Motorola Atrix Launch Date Leaked…Maybe

The Motorola Atrix 4G (check out our hands-on) on AT&T easily is one of the hottest phones to come out of CES, with its dual-core processor, the very cool laptop dock and the even cooler HD dock, which basically turns your smartphone into a mini-desktop computer with Firefox browser.
But one thing we didn't get out of CES was a launch date. It's possible we have that now, thanks to a leaked internal AT&T screen showing March 1, 2011, and the SKU of 65230. (There's a much bigger pic showing all this and a whole bunch of specs after the break.)
We say this launch date is "possible" above because AT&T routinely launches phones on Sunday -- March 1 is a Tuesday. That doesn't mean it's not the date, but it also breaks from tradition. That said, it also matches what Android Central Forums member BloodiedWraith mentioned a day ago. Right now we'll leave this as "possible," but it's starting to look good. Thanks, anon!

Akai SynthStation49 Full-Fledged iPad Keyboard Dock

While it's not the kind of iPhone or iPad dock you would bring with you on your next cross-country plane ride, the Akai SynthStation49 dock offers up something a standard iPad dock doesn't -- a 49-key, velocity-sensitive keyboard controller complete with drum pads and manual pitch control. As reported by Engadget, the SynthStation iPad dock/keyboard combo is a far cry from the original SynthStation, which was much smaller and designed for the iPhone. What this new, bigger version lacks in portability it makes up for in features, with direct in-app MIDI recording, 1/4″ output jacks, full transport buttons and the ability to be used as a traditional USB MIDI controller if you happen to find yourself without your iPad. It's also iOS CoreMIDI compatible, meaning it can be used with a bunch of music apps that are already available in Apple's App Store.

The Akai SynthStation49 isn't available for purchase yet as it is still pending certification from Apple, so we don't even know what its price point will be. While we have seen a ton of different synthesizer software for iOS devices, this one throws in the keyboard and dock MIDI controller as well, making it a kind of "all-in-one" package for musicians everywhere, if not entirely mobile.

Sony’s 3D OLED Glasses Tell Story Of Tron Future

Looking suspiciously like something out of Tron, the new Sony 3D OLED Glasses have me wondering if some accident in the near future doesn’t change the course of humanity, making everything look like Tron. Forever.
Good, now that’s off my chest, I can tell you the grey, black and very light blue color scheme on Sony’s head mounted OLED glasses isn’t very fortunate. In fact, it looks like R2D2 and a 12 year old got together and designed these.
There is, however, much reason for joy and celebration on the technical side. With two OLED screens and a total resolution of 1280×720, there’s room for both HD and 3D with these babies, and they also come with simulated 5.1 surround sound and connection to most gaming and media devices through HDMI.
Just a prototype for now, Sony promised they’ll have a talk with R2D2 and the 12 year old, motivating them to double their design efforts in a quest for market release by the end of 2011.

CellPhones Vertu Ascent Ferrari GT Branded Phone

Red and black hand sewn leather? Is it a car? Is it a Ferrari?

The sides of the phone look like an engine block, geometrically embossed and passed through by symbolic engine tubes until it screams Ferrari. The battery cover is made from yet another material – ceramic.

Gadget Reviews Casio Tryx Camcorder With 360-Degree Swivel Frame

Available starting Aplit, for $250, the Casio Tryx is a 1080p cam that has the looks of a transformer phone bot more than those of a mid-tier camcorder.

In fact, the design is innovative even by phone standards, with a full 360-degree swiveling frame that surrounds the 3 inch 460k pixel touch screen.

Did I mention this camcorder is almost all screen real estate? It looks more like a media player. But the frame allows for a lot of comfortable and innovative grip variations, and obviously it can be used as a kickstand, which turns the Tryx into a -you guessed it – media player.

Gadget Reviews Motorola Xoom 10.1 Inch Tablet Running Android 3.0

Honeycomb tablets are dropping from the skies like honey from heaven, what with CES 2011 and all wrapping up over the weekend. Actually, like honey from a broken bees nest being ravaged by a berserker bear.

Sweet bears aside, Motorola’s new Xoom will run the Android Honeycomb 3.0 on a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2. With a 10.1-inch screen and 4G connectivity, 1280 x 800 resolution, and 5 megapixel camera capable of recording 720p, a little less than the tablet’s 1080p playback capability, this one will be highly prized and sought-after following its Q1 launch.

But wait a minute, 4G will only come as an update in Q2, making early adopters bitch and moan in anticipation. Other connectivity options are 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1 and EDR. With the battery capable of playing video for 10 hours straight, the 32GB of onboard storage will prove to be too little for movie buffs and other dangerously fringe social categories.

CellPhones Reviews Sony Xperia Arc Is Sexy Phone Time (video)

Licensing the Android platform was single handledly the best thing Sony Ericsson could have done for their mobile phone business.  The Xperia Arc might be the next best.

As alluded to it’s an Android phone.  That screen, it measures 4.2-inches, is multitouch and boasts a resolution of 854×480 pixels.  The body of the Arc measures 8.7mm at its slimmest point.  Storage comes by way of a microSD card slot and under the hood is a 1Ghz processor.  In terms of optics there is an 8.1 megapixel sensor that can capture HD video (HDMI output for TVs) and has a f/2.4 for low light situations.

The Arc will ship with Android 2.3 sometime in late Q1 or early Q2 of this year in most markets.

Phones Reviews votes vote! iPhone 4 on Verzion’s CDMA network will be announced next week

We are all eagerly anticipating next Apple event planned for the next Tuesday January 11 when reportedly iPad 2 is going to be announced. But not only that as it turns out. Verizon may also become the second US network dealing iPhones. iPhone 4 models to be precise as they will (expectedly) be specifically manufactured to operate on CDMA network. This is yet a question if Verizon iPhone 4 will support 4G network as well. My word is that it will not. I reckon Apple will add 4G support to iPhones of all models if there will actually be dispersion in the next generation, but I would gladly be wrong on this one. So far it is clear that Verizon iPhone will look the same and, of course, will not be the fith generation model as ones might have thought. At the moment we have only one remotely relevant proof that Verizon will get the iPhones: iPhone 3G S has just gone cheaper on AT&T.

Notebook Reviews Beautiful Switchblade Gaming PC From Razer

Just when we though Razer had reached the limit of complexity for peripherals, and they would outdo their latest keyboard, which had 139 gaming specific buttons, give or take, here they are making a move into the gaming PC market.

And it’s awesome. The Razer Switchblade is a small laptop with a touchscreen and a dynamic flash keyboard, which as far as we know is completely innovative, at least in the PC realm. The keyboard reconfigures not only its functionality, but also its look based on game concent. Keys are different depending on what you’re playing, with the in-game icons for various actions actually making an appearance on your keyboard, lighting up individual keys.

Unfortunately it’s just a concept, but Razer promises at least some degree of realizing it, as a consequence of “working with selected partners to design and launch products based off the Razer Switchblade concept design.”

Gadget Review Razer Onza Still Looking Good, Still No Release Date

I saw the Onza back in June at E3. I saw it last year at CES. I played games on it both times, and both times was impressed. Today was no different. So why the hell can’t they finalize and ship the damn thing already?

I have no idea, though the company seems convinced it isn’t quite done yet. But it’s nearly there, supposedly! Considering pre-orders start in just two weeks, it has better well be, because the Onza is one fine looking controller. And that’s not even including the four extra buttons on it.
No, I played with the Razer Onza today and had a heck of a time. My shooting was accurate, the feel was spectacular, and while the face buttons are clicky (like a mouse) instead of the standard mushy gamepad buttons, they just worked. Without a doubt anyone can pick up the Onza and instantly play as good as with a standard 360 controller, and with just a few minutes, I firmly believe that it will improve gameplay.

It does this in a few ways. First, the analog sticks are tighter, which does two things: makes them more precise and makes them stop faster when released. The triggers are also tighter, and require less pull to press, enabling faster shooting. And, of course, four programmable buttons (two secondary bumper and two rear buttons) mean never having to move a thumb off a thumbstick.

In limited practice, I’ve found that the Onza works great. It’s one of the few peripherals I can’t wait to get my hands on and really test extensively, because it has the potential to overshadow Microsoft’s design significantly. Even if it remains restricted by a wired connection, I can easily see gamers going back to a cable for better controls. I mean, who needs batteries, recharging kits and throwing all that money away anyways? Wires for the win!

Cellphone Review LG Crystal View

LG are known for their original and creative phone ideas and the LG Crystal is another unique design. This is the first mobile to have a completely transparent keyboard. The phone, not being too dissimilar to the Samsung Tocco Ultra, consists of a touch screen user interface combined with a slide down keypad. The main difference from the Samsung though is that the crystal has a completely touch sensitive keypad as well. There are no separate keys with just a flat, see-through surface with numbers etched in.

The main display, as well as being touch screen has a very high resolution 800 x 480 pixels and 16 million colours as well as the actual size of the screen is quite impressive also being 3” diagonal. The features on this phone are also pretty cool such as the ability to draw a character on the screen to access your music, inbox, etc even if they are a slight bit gimmicky. But you can’t help but feel that with a price of up to £350 SIM-free LG could have given you something a little more special.
One problem that I have found after a couple of weeks of use is that when texting, you have the option of an on-screen QWERTY keyboard which is good and easily accessible but sometimes it locks up and you have to exit your text to unfreeze the phone.
Although the transparent keypad looks snazzy and is a great show off at the pub the original and cool design took all of 10 seconds for the novelty to wear off and for the £350 phone to slip into my pocket to be used just as I used my old, reasonably priced one.
To conclude, the new LG Crystal is a cool new design that could definitely be developed and the features are all quite neat concepts with a pretty good camera. The only drawback with this original mobile is the massive price tag associated with a phone that doesn’t quite give me all I wanted for the money I splashed out.
Battery – Standard battery, Li-Ion
Camera – 8 megapixel camera (3264×2448 pixels) with LED flash, autofocus and night mode, this mobile phone also has video and a secondary video-call camera
Data Features – GPRS Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots, 32 – 48 kbps), EDGE Class 10 (236.8 kbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, USB and 3G (HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps)
Display – 3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen (16-million colours/480 x 800 pixels) featuring S-Class Touch UI, Multi-touch input method, Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Transparent touch-sensitive keypad, Gesture Shortcut and Handwriting recognition
Size and Weight – 105 x 52.5 x 13.4mm

Gadget Review Notion Ink Eden UI for Adam tablet demo

Notion Ink has once again, there is no other word, shown off their Adam tablet. The custom Eden UI for Android they have developed for Adam that it is running in a video demo they have made is definitely a thing of beauty. This being a demo, there are still a lot of questions of how it will work in everyday life and I’m sure Eden will attract some and distract the others, but a user interface must not be a love it or hate it thing. Any UI can be judged by the potential it provides. At first glance Notion Ink has done alright.

This is a subjective thing for me – I still can’t get over the fact that there is too much of a body padding around the display. It doesn’t affect the Eden UI in any way however. The thing I like most about it is that you can have three app windows visible simultaneously. This is very common to have content related to each other across the applications like writing a text document and peeking up information from the browser or moving back and forth between spreadsheets and calculator. This then means app windows are tall rather than wide and this, I think, is not ideal.

There are other options of course to navigate through opened apps like jump lists, etc. and you should see them for yourself. The question that I have in my mind now is how Eden UI will work with the well-spoken Android Gingerbread or rather even what version Adam will be able to update to?

Gadget Review ThinkGeek JOYSTICK-IT Sticks To Any Tablet, Adds Tactile Gaming (video)

Just when we thought Fling could stand alone as the only tactile gaming controller for the iPad and other tablet computers, Thinkgeek goes and tosses out the JOYSTICK-IT.

This another Thinkgeek original product, which is further emphasized by the devices old school look and milled-aluminum construction.  Much like the Fling you just stick it to the screen any where the virtual joystick appears in the game of your choosing, and you’ll be able to game like it’s 1989. We’re not sure how it sticks to the screen, but Thinkgeek says that it’s “removable and reposition-able”.

Hit the ‘leap’ for a video demo.

Notebook Review Samsung Series 9 Laptop Is Bringing Sexy Back To The PC

Despite it being a PC, we’re absolutely in love with Samsung Series 9 laptop.  I measures a svelte .68-inches at its thickest point and weighs a mere 2.9lbs.  If this thing isn’t a Macbook Air killer, then we don’t know what is.

Much like the aforementioned competing Apple product, the Series 9 lacks an optical drive, but does sports an Ethernet port, USB ports, headphone jack, HDMI output and a Core i5 2537M processor under the hood.  There is also a 128GB SSD for storage, 4GB of RAM, a 13.3-inch LED display, speakers with sub and a backlit keyboard.

Samsung hasn’t yet announced an official launch date, but we’re hearing the price will be in the $1,600 ball park.

Gadget Review Palm Pre 2 is out in Canada for with 3-year plan

Palm has released Pre 2 in mass availability ahead of CES 2011. This may not be a surprise and Palm has done well catching this week and a half before the holyday shopping season is over. Just one word of warning for those of who will lay their hands upon shiny new Pre 2 in the morning of January 1 – this smartphone comes with a three-year contract. At least now it does. Price is respectively low – at $99 in Canada from Rogers, which is the only carrier selling Pre 2 at the moment of writing, it couldn’t be cheaper, but three years of plan does’t make it a pleasant present which is what really matters right now.

Anyway, it’s a phone, so for a moment we will leave contract aside and remember ourselves what Palm Pre 2 is like as a phone. There are not many smartphone companies left out there who develop their own operating software. Pre 2 runs HP webOS 2 and its performance is yet to see, but there is no doubt that it’s a steady evolution of the original version. So is the hardware. At first glance it is hard to even tell Pre from Pre 2. Their size is almost identical, basic shape is also right there, display has remained of the same size and resolution, so has form factor and it still has its awesome touchstone charging dock. We don’t have any processor figures or RAM/ROM capacities unfortunately, but this is the matter of time. Here is the rest of the specs.

Palm Pre 2 specifications:

Operating system: HP webOS 2
Display: 3.1-inch 320 × 480
Camera: 5 megapixel with LED flash
Form factor: slider
Input: multitouch display, physical QWERTY keyboard
Storage memory: 16 GB
Wireless: Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, mobile hotspot up to 5 devices
Connectivity: USB 2.0, 3.5 mm headphone jack
Battery life: 5 hours talk, 350 hours standby
Dimensions: 2.35 × 3.96 × 0.67 (59.6 × 100.7 × 16.9)
Weight: 5.1 oz (145 grams)

The home theater setup, while appealing, can be a bit aesthetically intrusive on one’s living room, not to mention challenging from a technical know-how when it comes to setup.  So it’s no surprise to us that we’ve seen the soundbar, an all in one virtual surround sound speaker, grow in popularity along side the now ubiquitous flat screen TV.

Gadget Review MSI R6970 and R6950 are out

At this time of year we often struggle to look at any new gadget free of a gift idea approach. So happens with these. MSI has released two new gaming graphic cards just ahead of Christmas, so naturally you might seize one of those if there is a gaming enthusiast among your friends and relatives. Specs and features follow.

MSI R6970 and R6950 are based on respectively named AMD Radeon HD 6000 series Cayman graphic cores which are built on 40 nm fabrication process. This, of course, is fine, but many people out there are holding it for the next-gen GPUs from ATI and NVIDIA. We expect them to be out some time next year, so if you are actually buying for a gamer, make sure you know what you are doing or you’ll spend a lot of money and will get no appreciation instead.

MSI R6970-2PM2D2GD5 specifications:

Core clock: 880 MHz
Fabrication process: 40 nm
Memory clock: 5500 MHz
Memory capacity: 2 GB GDDR5
Bus width: 256 bits
Interfaces: PCI Express ×16 2.1, HDMI 1.4a, Mini DisplayPort ×2, DVI-I, DVI-D, CrossFire
Features: DirectX 11, AMD Eyefinity, AMD Advanced Parallel Processing, AMD CrossFire
